About the Instructor

Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is J. Alex Tolcou.  I come to you with a Bachelor’s Degree in Equestrian Science and experience working with youth and a variety of disciplines.

Growing up on my grandfather's 118+ acre farm in Southeastern Missouri helped define and shape my desire to work in the equine industry at an early age.  My first pony, Coco, carried me daily to and from the school bus stop for first and second grade.

My love of horses continued to grow as I aged.  I was later able to refine my skills in a more formal setting while attending William Woods University, Fulton, Mo., where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Equestrian Science in 1994.

I've worked in varying aspects of the equine industry all my life including positions such as caretaker, show groom, horseshow magazine reporter, senior veterinary technician, horse trainer and riding instructor.  In regards to teaching children, aside from teaching one on one riding lessons, I also have experience working both as a Girl Scout Summer Camp Wrangler and teaching catechism to children grades K-3.

Over the years, I have successfully competed in disciplines such as Ladies Driving, Hunter Over Fences, Three-Gaited Pleasure, Five-Gaited Pleasure, Saddleseat Adult Equitation, as well as multiple 25 and 50-mile Endurance Races.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge and love of horses with you.
